Front cover of the twelve-page booklet
Page eleven states, "Manufactured

West Germany"

Rear tray insert, "Printed in West Germany" with no barcode (x).
Only tray inlay known to contain this target CD in the USA.
Printed on the inside is "16029-2" over "EUROPE: 299 143"

Rear tray insert "Printed in West Germany." without barcode (y).
In tiny print: "Manufactured in Germany by Record Service GmbH, Alsdorf"
Nothing is printed on the reverse. Disc variation (c) was issued in
Europe with this tray card.
Other later pressings were also issued with the same inlay. See below.

Notes: This target CD is fairly common. It was not distributed in the UK,
as this title was issued on a different label there. See below.
In Japan, a target CD was issued, but not this one. See separate listing.

Jewel case info: (copy #1 with no letters after the matrix number) smooth frosted

OTHER INTERESTING EARLY CD PRESSINGS OF THIS TITLE:

The disc does not have any country or manufacturer on it, but I would be shocked if it
wasn't West Germany by PolyGram. These early blue-face discs are popular with collectors.
Matrix number: CDV 2185 2891088 03
Released by Virgin Records as CDV 2185, this was issued in the UK, and probably
anywhere else where Virgin held the rights to this title.

Rear tray insert "Printed in West Germany by Neef, Wittengen" without barcode.
"CDV2185" is printed on the reverse. The front cover of the booklet is the same
as that of the target CD, but the rest is quite different. The back cover has
the song titles across the back of Phil's head.
Since the matrix numbers are different, I am assuming that the mastering is also
different, but I don't if there are any major differences.
Later copies of this disc come with a rear tray card that lacks the "Printed in" statement.
This latter tray card may also host a UK Nimbus pressing that has red text on silver stock.

MADE IN JAPAN (by JVC)
Matrix number: 16029 2 M4E12
Many other matrix numbers are known. I also have 16029 2 M1E11, 16029 2 M4E11,
16029 2 S5E17, and 16029 2 S5E110

Rear tray insert "Printed in Japan" without barcode.
Early JVC pressings (such as the M1E11) come with this rear tray card.
"16029-2" is printed on the reverse. The booklet states "Manufactured
Manufactured (sic) by JVC, Japan
Printed in Japan" on page eleven.
The first "Manufactured" is in serif typeface, while the rest is sans serif.

Rear tray insert "Printed in Japan" with barcode.
"16029-2" is printed on the reverse.
Later JVC pressings (such as the S5E17) usually come with this rear tray card.
The booklet is exactly the same as the earlier booklet.
Even later JVC pressings come with USA inserts with barcode. See below.

MADE IN SWITZERLAND (by ICM) for distribution in the USA
Matrix number: 7567 16029-2 2893 311 02 *
In this case, ICM used a PolyGram master. The disc is aluminum-to-the-center, but
unlike PolyGram/PDO discs, there are several concentric rings, some milled.
WEA used ICM Switzerland for a number of spot pressings circa 1985-1987.
This same disc may have also been sold in parts of Europe.

Rear tray insert "Printed in U.S.A." with barcode.
Nothing is printed on the reverse. This tray card was used for several years for many
different pressings. The booklet states "Printed in U.S.A. on page eleven.
Speaking of the booklet, it is a bit different than the target issue:

No title on Phil's forehead!

"Manufactured in Germany by Record Service GmbH, Alsdorf"
Matrix number: 7567 16029-2 2893 311 01
Also manufactured using a PolyGram master, this was issued in Europe.
It has an aluminum-to-center hub with concentric rings, but not like the ICM disc.
The booklet is similar to the target issue but there is no manufacturing info
on page eleven. The rear tray insert is the same as (y) above.
