The Doors
Elektra 74007-2 (242 012)
LP originally released in 1967
made in West Germany for US and international markets
color scheme: reddish orange background with silver paint target and lettering
genre: rock

MADE IN WEST GERMANY BY POLYGRAM
There are two subtle color variations of this disc. The difference
is hard to tell in a scan, so I won't bother picturing both. The difference
is in the orange background paint. One is the usual matte paint usually seen
on target discs. The other is more like a glossy candy apple orange, almost
iridescent. Unless you are looking for the variation, you would probably miss it.
The latter disc variation can be found with or without MADE IN W. GERMANY BY PDO
etched around the center hole.

MADE IN || WEST GERMANY
I have found only one version of this variation, with matte finish.

Front cover of the booklet, Printed in West Germany.
Note the Gold Record Award seal. This seal was removed when the remastered
version was released in the late 1980s. On the latest remaster, it has reappeared.
Note also that there is a retouched area above the Elektra logo. This will be
found on all booklets printed in West Germany and France. On the Japanese and US
booklets, there is a catalog number in this area. The West German-printed
booklet is a six-page foldout one-piece affair.

Front cover of the booklet, Printed in U.S.A.
Note the old LP catalog number above the Elektra logo.
This US booklet is an eight-page stapled affair.
This US booklet can be found with the disc variation that has MADE IN W. GERMANY BY PDO
etched around the center hole. It is also found with the US target pressing.
See the separate entry.

Rear tray insert, Printed in West Germany, no UPC, old Elektra logo.
This back insert is known to come with the matte paint disc, as discussed above.
The variation with black lettering (see separate entry) also can be found in
this inlay.

Rear tray insert, Printed in West Germany, with UPC, new Elektra logo.
This back insert is known to come with the candy apple orange disc with nothing
etched around the center hole.

Rear tray insert, Printed in U.S.A., with UPC, new Elektra logo.
This back insert is known to come with the candy apple orange disc with MADE IN
W. GERMANY BY PDO etched around the center hole. You might also find a US pressing,
including the US target disc, so be sure to check the disc before buying!

Notes: This disc is fairly common, but there is demand for it, which sometimes
drives up the price at auction. The variations may take some patience.
